Profit and Loss - Forecast

The Profit and Loss - Forecast workbook shows a full-year income statement by combining actual posted data for completed periods with budget data for remaining periods. This projects how revenue, costs, and expenses will finish across the full fiscal year against the selected budget.

Selection page

When you open the workbook, the Selection Page appears before the profit and loss statement loads. Fiscal Year, Fiscal Period, and Budget are required fields and must be completed before you can proceed. All other filters are optional and help you narrow the results.

  • Company: the company to report on.
  • Fiscal Year: the fiscal year the report covers. (required)
  • Fiscal Period: the period used as the cutoff between actual and forecast data. (required)
  • Budget: the budget used as the source for forecast amounts. (required)
  • Segment 02
  • Segment 03
  • Segment 04
  • Segment 05
  • Segment 06

Forecast report

The report follows the same income statement structure as the basic version, from gross profit down to net income. Results are split into two parts: a summary block on the left showing full-year totals, and a monthly breakdown on the right showing each fiscal period individually.

Summary columns

  • Full Year Actual: total posted amounts for all completed periods in the fiscal year.
  • Full Year Actual + Forecast: actual amounts for completed periods combined with budget amounts for remaining periods. This is the projected full-year result.
  • Full Year Forecast: the full-year budget amount.
  • Variance: the difference between Full Year Actual + Forecast and Full Year Forecast, showing how the projected result compares to the original plan.

Monthly columns

Each fiscal period in the year is shown as a separate column in YYYY-MM format. Completed periods are labeled Actual and show posted data. Remaining periods are labeled Forecast and show budget data. The cutoff between actual and forecast columns is determined by the Fiscal Period selected on the selection page.

Mapping

The profit and loss statement is organized into sections such as Revenue, Cost of Sales, Operating Expenses, and Other Income and Expense. Each section is linked to a Sage 100 account group, which determines which accounts appear in that section and how totals are calculated. You typically only need to update this mapping if your account groups differ from the default setup, for example if you use different group codes or notice accounts appearing in the wrong section.
