Trial Balance
The Trial Balance workbook lists every general ledger account with its debit and credit totals for a selected fiscal period. Activity is organized by account description across your full chart of accounts. Because total debits must always equal total credits, this report is used to confirm the books are in balance before closing a period or producing financial statements.
Selection page
When you open the workbook, the Selection Page appears before the trial balance loads. Fiscal Year and Fiscal Period are required fields and must be completed before you can proceed. All other filters are optional and help you narrow the results.
- Company: the company to report on.
- Fiscal Year: the fiscal year the trial balance reports on. (required)
- Fiscal Period: the period within that fiscal year used as the cutoff for balances. (required)

Trial balance report
The report lists each account by description and shows its debit and credit balances for the selected period. At the bottom of the report, the Total row adds up every debit and every credit. In a balanced set of books these two totals are equal.
- Debit: total debits posted to the account during the period. Debits generally increase assets and expenses, and decrease liabilities and equity.
- Credit: total credits posted to the account during the period. Credits generally decrease assets and expenses, and increase liabilities and equity.
