Sales Anomalies and Trends

The Sales Anomalies and Trends dashboard focuses on detecting margin erosion, sales concentration by period, and unusual daily sales activity. It is about spotting patterns that stand out from the norm. Use this dashboard to identify customers or products where margins are declining, find periods with unusually high or low sales density, and flag daily sales that fall outside expected ranges.

The left side of the dashboard monitors margin erosion at both the customer and product level, plotting net sales variance % to show where margins are shrinking. The right side focuses on timing and anomalies, with a density map showing when sales activity concentrates across periods and a daily sales chart that overlays volatility bands to highlight days that break the expected pattern.

How to use this dashboard

  • Monitor margin erosion by customer to identify accounts where net sales variance is declining.
  • Monitor margin erosion by product to spot products losing margin over time.
  • Review sales density by period to understand when sales activity is most concentrated during the year.
  • Detect daily sales anomalies by comparing actual net sales against volatility bands to flag unusual spikes or drops.

Visual components

ViewTypeWhat it shows
Customer Margin Erosion MonitorBubblePlots customers by net sales variance %, with bubble size reflecting sales volume. Customers further right show stronger variance, and those with shrinking margins cluster toward the bottom.
Temporal Sales Density MapBubblePlots sales activity by calendar period, with bubble size reflecting sales volume. Larger bubbles indicate periods with higher concentration of sales.
Product Margin Erosion MonitorBubblePlots products by net sales variance %, with bubble size reflecting sales volume. Same structure as the customer view but at the product level.
Anomaly Detection in Daily SalesCombinationPlots daily net sales alongside volatility bands (high and low). Days where sales fall outside the bands indicate unusual activity that may need investigation.
